Welcome Letter for Diwali 2011

November 5, 2011

Dear Friends,

On behalf of the UPAD Board, Executive Committee and Executive Members, we would like to wish you and your family a very happy Diwali.

We are really pleased with our achievements during the year. We organized a number of events starting with An evening with your valentine on Feb 18th, and then we had our Holi function on April 23rd followed by Kavi Sammellan on May 1, 2011 where India's three best poets delighted us by presenting a lovely blend of poems that not only enthralled but enriched us on various sensitive issues. These events awaken Indian pride in all of us and motivate us to keep our culture alive even after coming far away from our country. Then we had our annual picnic on August 21st where members of all ages had fun eating, playing and dancing. On September 16th, over 80 UPAD members assembled for a fun and enjoyable family bowling night. Our youths helped out at Gleaners Food Bank and Rouge River Cleanup. Adult members served prasad during the Bharatiya Temple's new mandir inauguration.

We are really honored to have led this wonderful organization in its 17th year of existence. Your support and assistance has helped us in promoting camaraderie, communal harmony, and Indian culture and values amongst all the people of Indian origin in Michigan. UPAD is really grateful to our children and their parents for their time and effort in making this program successful. Our goal is to encourage young talent and provide them with an opportunity to perform on stage.

I am pleased to inform you that this year UPAD donated to $1200 to charity organizations including Ekal Vidyalaya, Bill Gates Foundation and Akshay Pratisthan, a school in India serving the underprivileged and the differently abled sections of the society. Akshay Pratishthan has integrated able bodied and differently abled children to form an institution looked upon by everyone. We encourage you to help these unfortunate children by donating generously via UPAD.

We thank our members, volunteers, guests, advertisers, and sponsors for their active participation and support. We also sincerely thank the committee members for their continued support in making this event a success. Please enjoy the wonderful program this evening!

With warmest wishes,

Anand Sinha, Chairperson, Board of Trustees

Rashmi Upadhyaya, President, Executive Committee
